This is a design that has eluded me for a while. Last year, I registered The Creative Unpublished, LLC with the state of Indiana as a company. Its to cover my bases on rare occasions that I freelance or make money on anything creative.
This is not the first time I have attempted this logo. Long ago, like 4 years or so, some friends and I had a collaborative private blog called the Creative Unpublished. The idea was that we would share our various creative works and collaborate. A few of us had tried to come up with a logo to incorporate all our creative interests. However, after a couple months the experiment fell apart.
As I came up with the name and idea, I opted to keep the name. After several years, I finally came up with something that i think will work for me.
So, this was what I originally came up with a few nights ago. I was trying to incorporated different forms of art into the logo. It made sense seeing how I never stick to just one discipline, despite film and photography being my primary art form. However, this seemed to simple in an amateurish way. It resembled the current The Kilted Artist logo, and that isn’t a good thing (TKA logo is much better, but the basic layout of the 2 seems to be the same).
Attempt number 2 wasn’t all that different. I just took the elements and rearranged them slightly. It just seems too busy, and once again too amateurish. Not on par with my usual skill. Admittedly, I am not a graphic designer. Its rare that I do any design work, and rarer still that it turns out anything close to professional.
Ok, maybe I am being a little hard on myself. Realizing i needed to simplify things and make the look more uniform, I made some changes. The first change was to make the frame of film strip look like pages out of the book. I then took the vector brush tool in Affinity Designer and used a more artistic stroke to do the outline. More like a brush stroke. I am much, MUCH more satisfied with this design. How on earth did I get this?! I like it a lot. A little more tweaking and a font to match and it will be good to go!
